(1999) JK Govt to provide education on Net to inaccessible areas

Jammu, Dec 4:There is a good news for all the students living in far flung and rural areas of the state. Of all other means, the Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to provide education through internet to them.

This was stated by the minister for information, science and technology, Ajat Shatru Singh at a school function in Jammu today, a PTI report said.

“There is a need to popularise science through internet in rural areas also where students do not have modern facilities of science”, Shatru said.

“Learning is a continuous process and there is no end to it”, he said, adding the need of the hour is to utilise the latest tools and techniques of imparting education to enrich our knowledge.

However, being the scion of only royal dynasty in the state, the minister seems blissfully unaware of the primitive backwardness prevailing in what he termed as our ‘inaccessible areas’. Our far-flung areas are still not connected by the
telephones or for that matter the people in these areas do not even have the adequate number of radios or televisions. Where will they get internet? Minister alone knows.

The statement looks more ironic from a government which has even failed to provide the elementary educational tools to the students in government schools.
