Employees strike enters 13th day

JAMMU, Jan 1 : The ‘Kam Chhor’ hartal launched by the employees of all the
government departments incuding civil secretariat un der the banner of
Employees
Joint Action Committee entered its 13th consecutive day today.

Normal functioning in all the government offices all over the state
remained completely
paralysed with employees raising slogans against the state government and
holding
protest demonstrations. The employees in small groups held protests inside
their
office complexes.

They were demanding release of second installment of dearness allowance,
arrears
of fifth pay commission, regularisation of all daily wagers, removal of pay
anomalies,
declaration of G.P Fund pass book as valid document and restoration of SRO
43
besides conceding to all others demands agreed in previous meetings.

They also expressed their resentment over the government’s decision of
serving
ultimatum to all the gazetted officers to resume duties alleging that the
government
was trying to create a wedge between the employees and the officers.

It may be mentioned here that the state babinet which had met on December
30 last
with Farooq Abdullah in the chair constituted four member committee headed
by
Minister for Housing and Urban Development Ghulam Mohi-ud- Din Shah. The
Committee was also not able to come out with any concrete decision to deal
with the
situation.

Those who represented government side included Minister for Law and
Parliamentary
Affairs PL Handoo, Minister for Finance Abdul Rehim Rather and Minister for
Education Mohd Shafi besides its chairman.

The EJAC was represented by Nazir Ahmed Mir, convenor, Mohd Shafi Khan,
Mohd
Khurshid Alam, Mohd Gafoor Dar, Lekh Raj Khajuria, MH Reshi, Chand Ji Bhat,
Syed
Nassar-Ullah, Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat, Mohd Maqbool Ganai, Satish Chander,
Muntizar
Mohd Ud Din, Mir Abdul Rashid, S Surjit Singh, A R Magrey, V P Baru and
Anwar
Beg.

While addressing these rallies, Mr Anwar Begh, Subash Chander, Satish
Sharma, VR
Baroo, Lekh Raj Khajuria and other employees’ leaders said the state
government
has adopted adament and rigid attitude to settle the genuine demands of the
state
employees.

The other senior leaders of the employees Joint Action Committee who
addressed
the series of rallies include Ghulam Nabi Bhat, Ram Kumar Sharma, Susheel
Sudan,
Kulbhushan Chouhan, Darshan Mangotra, Yash Pal Sharma, Amrik Singh, Markie
Gill, Tilak Raj, Ashok Kumar, Jarnail Choudhary, Miss Babli Sharma, and
Satwander
Bakshi.

Reports reaching from various districts and tehsil headquarters said that
striking
employees held protest rallies in the office complexes.

All the leaders and working committee members of the Federation in one
voice fully
supported the strike call given by J&K State Council of the Employees Joint
Action
Committee.

While addressing the meeting Mr Mushtaq Ahmed Khan who is also a member of
State Council of Joint Employees Action Committee appealed to all the rank
and file
of the federation to follow each and every programme of Employees Joint
Action
Committee to achieve the goal.

State Council of Jammu and Kashmir Employees Joint Action Committee met
today
under the chairmanship of its state convenor Mr Nazeer Ahmad Mir.

The state council took stock of the situation arisen after the yesterday’s
deadlock due
to the rigid attitude of the government. the state council appreciated the
over
whelming response of employees who staged a powerful demonstrations within
the
secretariat and outside the Shalimar Chowk Jammu to condemn the attitude of
the
government.
