Migrant KPs protest

Posted by Kashmir Portal on June 16, 2009

Srinagar, June 15: The migrant Pandits Monday staged protest demonstrations outside the civil secretariat here, demanding implementation of the Prime Minister’s employment package.
Under the banner of Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS), the protesters had arrived from Jammu last evening. This afternoon they gathered at the secretariat gate and staged a sit-in before they were taken into custody by the police, to be released later. The protesters included several women.
The protesters said the state administration has shown no intent of implementing the package even as the formalities have already been completed.
“The lackadaisical approach of the state administration has forced us to take to the streets. We have come from Jammu to protest for our right,” they said.
They said the package was announced to help the Kashmiri Pandits who migrated to different parts of India in late ’80s. “But the approach of the government has made the package unfruitful,” they said.
The protesters said they won’t return to Jammu unless chief minister Omar Abdullah doesn’t assure them of fulfilling their demands.
