Govt Employees Gear Up For Face-Off

Posted by Kashmir Portal on June 17, 2009

Srinagar, June 16, KONS: Another round of confrontation is brewing up between state employees and the government over the latter’s failure to implement some clauses of the 6th Pay Commission.State employees say that the government had ignored certain recommendations of the pay panel. The employees demand release of house rent allowance, enhancement of the retirement age to 60, conversion of COLA for public sector employees into dearness allowance, release of all arrears in three installments, regularization of contractual and ad hoc employees and time bound promotions as provided in the pay panel report. They say that the government had agreed to implement the steps in principle but had not issued a formal order till date.A faction of the Employees Joint Action Committee met here today, deciding to launch another struggle to secure their demands. The faction demanded that the government fulfill all its obligations without further delay so that the panel’s recommendations are implemented in full by July. After an agreement with agitating employees last year, the government had consented to implement the recommendations of the central pay commission in the state as well.
