Justice for Shopian: Transporters Take to Streets

Srinagar, June 16- Transporters in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir and some other major towns today took to streets in protest against the killing of two women after their rape at Shopian and other human rights violations.Yesterday traders took similar protest march against the incident.The transporters, including driver and conductors took to streets at general bus stand at Batmaloo demanding immediate arrest of culprits involved in the Shopian incident.The transporters marched through different streets before staging a dharna for sometime at Mushtaq Press Enclave, near here.They were also raising slogans against the authorities for failing to stop Human Rights violations before dispersing peacefully.The transporters had joined the protest on a call given by the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, now under detention.Traders had staged dharna yesterday while transporters today took to streets on a call given by Mr Geelani.Women will stage sit-in on June 17, Baramulla Chalo procession will be held on June 18 and a complete shut down will be observed on June 20.
